2015 국제학술대회와 관련, 아래와 같이 알려드립니다.
 
현재 사회적으로 메르스(MERS)에 대한 우려가 커지고 있는 가운데, 우리 학회에서는 당초 계획대로 대회를 차질 없이 운영하기 위해 노력하고 있습니다.
 
정부에서는 현재까지 메르스 위기 단계를 ‘주의’로 발표하였는데, 이는 감염병 위기관리 매뉴얼의 4단계 중 두 번째에 해당합니다. 감염병 위기단계는 가장 심각성이 낮은 '관심'부터 '주의', '경계', '심각' 순으로 높아지며, 현재 ‘주의’ 단계에서는 예방 교육 등의 조치를 취하면서 기타 활동에 제한을 두지 않습니다. 이는 일상생활 속에서 감염의 위험은 없다는 의미입니다.
 
그럼에도 본 학회에서는 안전과 예방을 위하여 철저한 현장 운영을 통해 국내외 참여자들이 머무는 서울대학교 평창캠퍼스 장소 관리에 만전을 기함으로써 이번 국제학술대회가 안전하게 개최될 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.

As you have no doubt heard by now, Seoul is at the center of a developing science story — the largest outbreak of MERS outside of Saudi Arabia, where the virus was discovered in 2012.

Korean health authorities have announced that the alert level for contracting MERS in Seoul is at level 2 out of 4, “watch”. That means there are no restrictions in place on movement or activities in Seoul or anywhere throughout the country. This was a single imported case that spread to close contacts in a hospital setting, not from everyday life activities.
 
(Level 1, “attention,” refers to a pandemic outbreak from another country, while level 2, “watch,” means that there are domestic patients. Level 3, “warning,” is declared when there is transmission from one place to another, and level 4, “urgency,” means that the communicable disease has been spread nationwide.)
 
The organizing committee will do our best to reassure participants as well as to reduce uncertainty.
 
We are making efforts to pay extra attention to safety.
